Area Guide to Playa Zancudo

The safe and laid-back beach community of Playa Zancudo consists of an eclectic blend of Costa Rican (Tico) and international residents, as well as a healthy population of iguanas, monkeys, sloths, birds and butterflies.

Originally settled by boat builders, Zancudo was then populated by pig farmers, who found plenty of food for their stock in the many bananas that would wash up on shore during the area’s banana company days. As banana plantations turned to palm oil farms, Zancudo became a popular vacation spot for Costa Ricans. These days, Zancudo boasts several beachfront hotels, restaurants, world-class sport fishing, local artists, musicians, surfing, swimming, jungle, river and waterfall tours, horseback riding, and more!

There are numerous places to eat, ranging from our own beautiful rancho-style restaurant to Italian, American and Costa Rican (Tico) establishments. If you’re looking for a quiet romantic dinner, somewhere to watch soccer (futbol) or a spot to end your night with music and dancing, Zancudo has it all.
